The City of Greater Sudbury is holding a community consultation on April 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., regarding a potential housing development on a portion of the Lionel E. Lalonde property in Azilda.
The event will be held in Room 106 of the Lionel E. Lalonde Centre. Organized as an open house, the consultation will give attendees an opportunity to ask questions, offer feedback and learn more about the proposed project.
A redesign of the site would preserve existing recreational fields and create a mix of affordable and market-priced housing. A conceptual site map showing the potential layout and design will be available for public viewing at the event.
According to the city’s land-banking summaries, there’s room for 417 housing units on the Azilda property.
The initiative is part of Greater Sudbury’s Land Banking Strategy, which aims to identify City-owned lands suitable for housing development. The strategy supports the broader Housing Supply Strategy, focused on increasing access to housing options that are affordable and appropriate for residents at all life stages and income levels.
Sudbury has developed a Housing Supply Strategy which aims to ensure that all current and future residents have access to the housing options that meet their needs at all stages of life, and that are attainable at all income levels. A Housing Supply Strategy that encourages thoughtful, targeted and sustainable residential development is one piece of a broader strategy to grow the City’s population and local economy.
The Housing Supply Strategy provides a series of implementable actions, under 17 broad focus areas to realize the objectives and goals that City Council has adopted through relevant reports and analyses, as well as public input.
