Ontario is helping to build a stronger, more diverse northern economy while creating jobs in the Algoma-Manitoulin area.

With $4.3 million in support from the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), seven projects in the Algoma-Manitoulin region are boosting the regional economy, and creating or retaining 64 jobs.  Projects include:

  • Four Manitoulin area First Nations are receiving a total of $1 million to build a hotel and conference centre in Little Current, creating 12 jobs.
  • J. Provost Contracting in Wawa is receiving $1 million to expand the construction company, creating 10 jobs.
  • Batchewana Band Industries is receiving $897,450 to expand the Blue Heron Industrial Park, creating five jobs.
  • The Municipality of Killarney is receiving $500,000 to upgrade its wharf facility and support the expansion of a fish plant and restaurant, retaining 20 jobs.
  • Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation is receiving $500,000 to build a multi-purpose centre, creating one job.
