The Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor) has announced a $147,000 grant for projects in West Nipissing and surrounding areas, including $50,000 to transform the former Sturgeon Falls mill site into a prime location for business development.
Funding will be used to complete a Phase II Environmental Assessment of the 27-acre property.
The redevelopment plans for this strategically located site include creating a vibrant riverfront park, mixed-use urban space, affordable housing, and new business opportunities. The site’s redevelopment is expected to foster significant social and economic benefits for the community, including business growth and improved connectivity with the Sturgeon River.
Kathleen Thorne Rochon, Mayor of the Municipality of West Nipissing, added, “We are grateful for FedNor’s continued support. West Nipissing is a community with a vibrant spirit, and this investment will help us transform the former mill site into a dynamic mixed-use area, creating numerous social and economic opportunities.”
Funding is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program and Economic Development Initiative (EDI) for Northern Ontario.
