Graham Campbell, Ontario’s Minister of Northern Development and Mines, has asked Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) members for assistance on a northern Ontario hockey arena initiative.
“We are working with a not-for-profit association that owns and operates a single ice pad arena that is looking to renovate the facility into a multi-purpose centre to include two ice rink surfaces,” EDAC reported in its member newsletter, reporting on Campbell’s request. “As they are not municipally operated, they do not have the capacity to build the proper RFP to seek a qualified group to lead a feasibility study.”
“We are seeking assistance from the EDAC members to assist with this effort and see if some members are willing to share an RFP that was created to undertake a project similar to this one.”
The posting did not specify the community where this arena is located, nor the project’s estimated value.
However, the email notification invites economic development officers to “correspond with Graham directly graham.campbell@ontario.ca along with a cc to the EDAC office gardiner@edac.ca.”
With some digging and research, designers and contractors may have an early shot at building relationships to develop the project.
