Sudbury MPP Jamie West and Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas are calling on the province to keep a long-standing promise to expand Highway 69 to four lanes.

“Highway 69 is too often in the news for the wrong reasons,” said West. “Too many lives have been lost. Too many families have grieved. Too many people are worried. We need four lanes and zero excuses because people’s safety is at risk.

“There are 68 km left to 4-lane. People have had enough. We are calling on Northerners to share their stories and join us to push the government to make Highway 69 safer.”

Gélinas agrees, urging the province to put safety first for Northern Ontario drivers.

“Enough people are dying. Enough first responders are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. Enough families are grieving. Enough people are worried,” he said. “We have had enough – we need four lanes, zero excuses.

“We are hoping this campaign will help bring this issue the attention it deserves. If we all speak with one voice, we will make a huge impact.”
