The City of Greater Sudbury has completed a review of its land use policy framework for commercial and industrial development. As part of this process, updates to the  Zoning bylaw and official plan are now in place to support economic growth and development in the City of Greater Sudbury.

Throughout the review process, residents were invited to provide feedback on possible improvements or challenges through online surveys and in-person public hearings.

Adjustments made to the zoning bylaw and official plan focus on increasing land available for development, reducing and simplifying parking requirements, addressing site design barriers, enabling easier reuse of existing buildings, and expanding opportunities for home-based businesses.

More information is available on the Employment Land Strategy website.

In August 2022, council approved the Employment Land Strategy for areas that are designated for economic activity, to better position the city to respond to employment land needs by considering future trends, projected demand, land supply, municipal services, incentives and other tools to support future growth and economic changes.

The strategy links planning, infrastructure and economic development to ensure that the City has an adequate supply of serviced employment land, and policy and incentive frameworks in place to stimulate investment, development and job creation.
